Summary of the Book
In a time of gods and myths, legends and prophecies, a hero will rise out of stories and out of the legends of the lost city of Atlantis. Hylas has lost everything. He can’t find his sister, his dog has been slain. Three strange black-clad warriors hunt for his head, setting him off on a quest spanning the land and the sea. A twelve year old Cretan girl married to an Achaean lord she has never seen joins him as she escapes from her life. Also joining these two unlikely companions is a dolphin who is lost at sea. Together, this strange trio must find Hylas’ sister, the young Issi. Hylas doesn’t know who he can trust, but he will do anything to get his sister back, alive and well.

Michelle Paver is a British writer known for the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness fantasy series.
She won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize for Ghost Hunter and she was nominated for a Shirley Jackson Award for best novel for Dark Matter.
Note on the Title
This book was renamed as The Outsiders in all subsequent prints.
